Trekking

Lying in the mountain area, Sapa
is a perfect place for trekking or hiking, it is of of highlights for travellers
going to Sapa.
There are some trek routes in Sapa, most tourists take a day trek to surrounding
villages such as Lao Chai, Ta Van, if they stay overnight at homestay in the
village, they would continue the hike to other villages like Giang Ta Chai, Su
Pan...
Young trekkers would love a longer trip, up to 4-5 days, further down to remote
villages like Thanh Kim, Ban Ho villages...Some companies also offer 3 day
trekking to the peak of Fansipan mount, which is 3400 m from sea level, nicked
name as the roof of Indochina, the trek is quite strenous, passengers must be
very fit, most of the trip they would walk on muddy buffalo paths, especially on
rainy days, travellers trek up and down the mountain passes, through the forest
between hill side villages, and homestay is a good choice for trekkers to spend
the night, local people are extremely friendly, throughout the trip travellers
are welcomed with smiles, hand waves and "hello! hello!" all the time. And
landscape of Sapa is really breathtaking, travellers trek between the rice
terraces, in the bamboo forest, through rivers and springs, and usually are
picked up by vehicle at the end of the trip for the way back to Sapa
Foreign trekkers to Sapa usually have a local guide, some can have porters to
carry luggage and stuff, biggers group even bring along a cook. Note that if you
go on longer trek in the area a permit is compulsory.
